When we walk into Galerie Tom Lucassen on Saturday afternoon, Tom, Dorothe, Puck’s mother, and Puck herself are hard at work. Puck’s works are being arranged one by one in the gallery. They’re moving things around, looking, and looking again—until everything feels just right. Large works, small works, and a beautiful series come together to form a multifaceted exhibition in which her distinctive style becomes increasingly recognizable.

Puck van Huffelen
Puck van Huffelen lives in Groningen and is in her final year of study at the Minerva Academy. Young and confident, she talks about her passion for art. In fact, she’s been doing it for as long as she can remember. Drawing, photography, observing, and developing ideas have always been a natural part of who she is. So when she arrived at the art academy, she knew right away: this is where my heart lies.
From the very start of her studies, she has learned and discovered a great deal—not only technically, but especially about what suits her best. Things are becoming more and more natural and come with less hesitation. Her own style is taking shape more and more clearly.
Her Inspiration
Puck finds inspiration all around her. Sometimes a piece begins with something very small or ordinary; other times, with an image, a person, or nature. Existing photographs also regularly serve as the basis for a new work. Her sister, for example, often models for her.
Once an idea takes hold, Puck is determined to bring it to life. She thinks deeply about imagery, compositions, and what she wants to convey. You can sense that careful consideration in many of her works. A human figure, a pose, or an arrangement often contains more than meets the eye. The work doesn’t reveal everything; rather, it encourages reflection.
Artists such as Amy Dury and Luc Tuymans inspire her, but Puck is explicitly searching for her own visual language. This is evident in the exhibition. Some works are large and bold, while others are small and serene. Together, they demonstrate the breadth of her practice and how her distinctive style continues to evolve.
Exhibition in Ommen
Gallery owners Tom and Dorothe saw Puck’s work in Drenthe and were immediately enthusiastic. They decided to invite her to hold an exhibition in Ommen. It’s a wonderful opportunity for a young artist who is still in the midst of her artistic development but already demonstrates a very unique way of seeing the world.
That is precisely what makes this exhibition special. You don’t just see the work currently on display, but also, as it were, an artist who is actively finding her own path. This young talent is now being given a platform in Ommen, and we have every reason to be a little proud of that.
The exhibition at Galerie Tom Lucassen is definitely worth a visit—not only to get acquainted with Puck’s work, but also because the pieces are for sale. So anyone moved by one of her paintings can simply take home a work by this exceptional young talent.
