Nature lovers will be planting special trees and bushes in and around Ommen in the coming weeks. And all help is welcome!
The Ommen Nature Society works together with, among others, the municipality of Ommen and Staatsbosbeheer to strengthen the unique biodiversity of the Vecht valley. That residents can also contribute to this was demonstrated recently when some 7,000 regional species were distributed for the greening of gardens and yards in Ommen. These included blackthorn, biennial hawthorn and Vechtdal roses for mixed hedges, and, for example, winter lime and sweet cherry for gardens bordering woods.
This will now be followed by joint planting actions on three Saturday mornings, January 10, January 17 and February 14. On those days special trees and shrubs will be planted in, among others, the Ommerbos, at the Junner Koeland and around the Dante and the Carrousel in the heart of Ommen.
The planting actions have different goals: we try to increase the variety of species in the Ommense woods again (and also to combat soil acidification) with, among other things, the planting of winter lime trees. In addition, flowering shrubs are planted for the benefit of all kinds of bees and butterflies that still occur in the Vecht valley, including the rare blackthorn butterfly.
"It's great fun to also help plant trees yourself," says Spijker. "We therefore call on everyone to help us." You can sign up for one or more dates at mail@natuurenmilieudevechtstreek.nl.
