The Clothing Bank Ommen is proud to announce that, exactly five years after its start in February 2021, it will soon move to a new location. If everything goes according to plan, the organization will be able to continue its work at the new location by the end of February.
Current location has obvious limitations
The current location of the clothing bank is on the second floor of MFC De Carrousel, above the library. This location offers limited space and limited opening hours, because the organization is dependent on the activities and opening hours of the MFC. As a result, the clothing bank cannot always open when clients need it and expansion of services is difficult.
More accessible and approachable new location
The new location is on the first floor of MFC De Carrousel in the former toddler playrooms, which are now used as classrooms by Vechtdal College. This makes the clothing bank much more accessible to clients. According to president and founder Margaret Otten, this is an important step toward the original mission: to provide a warm, dignified and accessible place for residents in need of clothing assistance.
More privacy through a private entrance
The independent entrance to the new building provides more peace and privacy for clients. This fits with the desire to accommodate those in financial need in a respectful and safe manner. The new space will contribute to a more pleasant and familiar experience for all visitors.
Improved safety and logistics for volunteers
In the current situation, volunteers must regularly carry heavy bags and boxes up stairs to the storage area. In the new location, the storage area is in the same building and at the right height, which significantly increases safety and makes the work more efficient. President Margaret Otten says that this is an important improvement for the team and helps to further professionalize the organization.
Move aligns perfectly with policy goals
The new housing provides more space for storage and sorting, allows for wider opening hours in time and gives the organization the stability it needs to continue to grow. As Margaret points out, this move "feels like a logical next step that prepares the Clothing Bank Ommen for the future."
The official date of opening will be announced at a later date. The Clothing Bank Ommen looks forward to supporting even more Ommen residents from its new location.
