The ten candidates, encouraged by their supporters, were brought forward in turn by presenter Nicky Lambregts and briefly introduced to the judges and the audience. Then each candidate read an excerpt from a book of their own choosing. While a book quiz was played during the break, the jury retired. Attention was paid to such things as pronunciation, intelligibility and pacing. The reader's contact with the audience was also important. After an exciting 15 minutes, the redeeming word was spoken by jury chair Corrie Doeleman.
Noortje Idema read an excerpt from the book Juffrouw Pots by Tosca Menten. The jury felt that the jury and the audience were captivated by Noortje's story from the beginning. Noortje will be one of the participants in the regional final which will be held on March 5 in Theater Carrousel Ommen.
