When you think of Kings Day in Ommen, you think not only of conviviality, but probably also of the unmistakable efforts of the Oranjevereniging Ommen. Since its establishment in 1959, this association has been an important pivot in organizing festive activities for young and old, culminating in Koningsdag!

But where did this Orange Society actually come from?

Oranjevereniging Ommen was founded in 1959, when a club of locals joined forces to celebrate the national holidays of the Royal Family. Soon the association grew and organizing. events such as (then) Queen's Day on April 30 became a tradition. Nowadays, of course, we celebrate Koningsdag and it has been moved to April 27, but what always remained the same is the typical Ommen atmosphere: the flags hang out, streets and bicycles are decorated and in the heart of Ommen it is pleasantly busy until late.

Over the years, many traditions have come and gone. For example, the carriage with the board members was removed from the parade and the parade eventually disappeared completely, just like the tattoo and the -too legendary- Oranjepop. But the Orange Association has always managed to launch new initiatives that fortunately manage to evoke just as much enthusiasm. The association seems to reinvent Koningsdag in Ommen again and again!

They prove that with Bicycle 'm in: The new spectacle on the Vecht And good news for all Ommen residents and Koningsdag enthusiasts: the program for Koningsdag 2025 has been approved in the annual members' meeting, and one of last year's most popular parts is returning! According to board chairman Rico Magsino, this new component caught on so well that it should not be missing from the Koningsdag 2025 agenda. Of course, there are still some minor improvements to be made, but the Orange Society can be trusted to do that. Expect another festive atmosphere along the Vecht with this splashing event!

Tip: Keep an eye on the socials and website of the Orange Association to see when you can sign up for "Fiets 'm in," because how cool is it to go down the ramp yourself this year?
