Cafe the Inn

Ommen

Brown cafe with lots of live music, billiards and darts, all Formula 1 races on big screen. A wonderful venue for parties and live music. Suitable for all your parties and celebrations.

Café Grootenhuis One of the oldest cafes above Zwolle is Café De Herberg on the Brugstraat in Ommen. The business has been around since 1741. Initially the business was called Café Grootenhuis, after the family that had an existence there for almost two centuries. Before the present building on Brugstraat was built, it fell victim to a fierce fire on May 16, 1913. The fire had started in the attic where uncle Marinus Grootenhuis had an incubator, which was heated by a petroleum stove. After the fire, five properties were reduced to ashes. Immediately after the fire, plans for a renovated café were approved.

Café Siero In 1952, Everhard and Riek Siero took over the café and the name became Café Siero. Riek and Everhard ran the business until 1972.

Café de Herberg In 1972 the café was taken over by Henk Hulsegge and the name was changed to "De Herberg" Henk sold the café in 1978 to Ab Kelder who was behind the bar until 1989. In 1989 Jeanet Swarts took over the café where she and Hans Mulder ran the scepter. In 2009 Hans van Lingen took over the café.

The Love of Music Where in earlier years the tones of lute, harmonica and accordion sounded, these days a lot of rock music can be heard. Owner Hans van Lingen says that in today's time, it is mainly the love of music that characterizes The Inn. And especially pop & rock music. Not from the least bands and artists: Dilana Smith, Anneke van Giersbergen, Anouk, Mattanja Joy Bradley and Bert Heerink. Often the café is the stage for good(tribute) bands. If such an act is programmed, De Herberg is packed.

Formula 1 And then the café and its regular audience have a thing for Formula 1. Ever since the racing of Jos Verstappen -in the mid-1990s- there has been a large screen in the café on which the exploits of this racing driver could be followed live. The place is still packed on these occasions. Jos' son Max Verstappen seems to more than match his father's success. Formula 1 and De Herberg have become indispensable in Ommen. By the way, a good game of soccer can also be seen there regularly.

Billiards and darts We have a billiard table and a dart table. So you can also enjoy a nice game of billiards or darts. (reservation required)

Celebrations and parties In 2021, the adjacent building (former Chinese) was purchased for an expansion of the cafe. From July 2022, this space has been added to the café and can be used for (private) parties. Live performances will also take place here. The new hall has a capacity of about 250 people for live performances and about 150 people for parties. The hall can also be divided into smaller rooms for more intimate parties.
